CASE STUDIES
Background
In 2008, TDI was awarded a survey/EOD contract by UNOPS DRC. It was agreed that TDI would begin its survey in Katanga Province and move north.
Survey and EOD – UNOPS DRC
Result
Access to the task areas was a serious challenge. However, TDI was able to carry out the required surveys and General Mine Action Assessment as mandated by the UN. A fourth team was mobilised in mid-2009 to cover South Kivu Province. To date, almost 9,000km of road and 935 villages have been surveyed in one of the most challenging theatres in Africa.
Action
An HQ was established in Bukavu, South Kivu Province, as this provided an easy, cost-effective port of entry for TDI. Equipment was moved into theatre from South Sudan and three survey/EOD teams deployed into different districts within Katanga Province in April 2009.
